shortest multi entry visa available?

i work as an English teacher, my 1 year multi entry permit is up in september, can i apply for an extension of 3, 6, 9 and 12 months? or is 6 months and 1 year only available ?

John, can you tell me what type do you hold? If it's a Z type or M type, you can possibly extend it. If it's another type, you cannot work in China actually.

Well, if so, I guess you must have a temporary residence permit, right? As long as you have a valid work contract and work permit, you can renew your residence permit before it expires and its validity depends on the term of your work contract.

ok thank you. our current situation is our z visa expires the same time as our contract expires unfortunetely our current school has made it 100% clear that they will not be giving us our release papers. does this mean we will have to travel back to Ireland and apply for a new visa for new school? or is it possible to get it done in Hong Kong ?

If so, you need to go back to your home country and apply for a new work Z type to enter PRC for work after you find a job in PRC.

ok. do you have any advice on who to contact that could possibly get the school to give us our release papers? it would be alot easier to transfer the visa but the principal does not want to do this for us. Keep in mind we have fulfilled our contract and are on good terms. why would he not give the papers to us? we have tried everything
