About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

This is probably an easy one... just want to make sure this will work.

San Francisco to Bejiing to Bangkok and Bangkok to Bejiing to San Francisco. We have a layover in Bejiing on the way back of 8 hours. 1. do we need to apply at the airlines or the airport and 2. can we go any where in the Bejiing area during that time? thank you

1. Doug, you are eligible for the 24 hour direct transit in Beijing. If you don’t leave the airport, you can just stay at transit zone and no need to apply. If you want to leave the airport, you need to apply for a temporary stay permit at the immigration office inside the airport.
2. If you get a temporary stay permit, you can go anywhere in Beijing.
