About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Taiwan to Shanghai Roundtrip (US Citizen)

I am a US Citizen currently working in Taiwan (with a working visa),
can I go from Taiwan to Shanghai and back to Taiwan with this 144 hour free transit?

No, round trip is not allowed under the 144hr free transit rule. You must travel to a country different from the country of departure.
