Can i keep my knitting needles from my carry on luggage when transiting HK to Brisbane?

I am traveling from Heathrow (where knitting needles are allowed in carry on luggage) with Cathay Pacific, to Hong Kong Airport for connecting flight to Brisbane with Quantas (who also allow them in carry on luggage.
I cannot find any info to say if they are allowed with Cathay Pacific or through security at Hong Kong Airport

Tait, it is suggested you put them in the checked luggage. This kind of items should not pass the security check.
