get z visa on arrival in shenzhen

Question

I have signed a contract to work in China and the company has told me that I can get a Z type upon arrival in Shenzhen. Is this true? I am a US citizen.

Well, I think what the company wants to tell you is that you can go to China on a tourist L type, and then change it to Z type after arrival. You cannot go without any entry permit and attempt to apply for a work Z type permit upon arrival.
