About:Hong Kong Visa Application

Vietnamese national living in France

Hi there,
Very useful site, couple of similar cases but still feel unclear. Any help much appreciated.

I'm British but my wife is Vietnamese, we are travelling to Hong Kong on the 12th October arriving on the 13th. We went to the Chinese Consulate in Lyon this morning and they didn't seem either to want to or to be able to deal with her application and asked us to get our friends in HK to see how long it would take. He said it could take up to 1,2 or 3 months which isn't really the issue, I simply thought that they would take care of the application and send it off. We have now made an appointment in Paris for the 16th August to make the application there. I still think they will have to send it off but at least there is more chance that they will have experience of dealing with such an application, the Consulate in Lyon didn't give me much confidence. Sending it to the HK Immigration department would be our final option but there isn't much information about whether you send you passport (I guess not) or payment, do they bill you later? Any comments welcome.

Hi Brian,
A little bit confused, if you get married so your wife could change her nationality from Vietnamese to British and she would not face the problem with the entry permit like my case!
If you read my question below, you could find out some solution for the payment process.
About application forms, as I read from the instructions on the website of Immigration office in HK, everything is just copies. You copy your passport and send it with application document.
I am also Vietnamese citizen but I live in EU for long time and I intend to have a tourist trip to HK in the next few months. Actually I called to China (or HK) Embassy in Sweden, where I live and they just mentioned that they have no rights to decide about HK entry permit issue, they just help to collect the application documents and send to Immigration office in HK. So the best way is still send your application direct to HK immigration office.
My concern is about invitation from a sponsor in HK. I am a solo traveler so I do not have any friend or sponsor in HK. But as someone answered my question, it's not really important so I would like to give me a chance to apply!
So good luck to you also!
Best,
Ken
