About:Chinese Temporary Residence Permit

Hi, my visa is X2 student, I'll stay in Beijing for 4 months,

do I need to apply temporary residence permit? Can I travel to South Korea during my stay in Beijing?

Because you hold student X2 type, you cannot apply for the temporary residence permit.
Once you exit PRC to South Korea, your X2 type cannot be used to re-enter because it is for single entry; so you need to re-apply for a new X2 type to re-enter PRC.
