About:Chinese Consulate in San Francisco

I will be traveling to Nanning, China in January 2017

and it is my understanding that I need a letter of invitation from the lady I am visiting. Is this really a necessity? She has told me she has sent a letter of invitation two months ago and I live in San Francisco, CA. and I still have not received it. Any suggestions?

Dennis, if you will visit her on a tourist L type, the invitation letter is not necessary. You can just provide the round trip air tickets and accommodation arrangement and other basic documents to apply for the L type.
