change from x2 to z visa in taiyuan

Question

Hello,I am an American who currently has an X2 type and am studying in Beijing. I am planning on working in Shanxi starting in September. I have all the documents needed to apply for a Z type, but I am not sure if I can change the type in China or if I have to go all the way back to the US and apply for a new one.Please let me know if I can apply for a new one within China, given that I have all the documents that I would need to get the Z type in the US. Thanks!(One note: I tried to do this process in Beijing yesterday, and the PSB said that they would've given me the Z type if I was working in Beijing but I have to get it processed in Shanxi since that is where I will be working. If I could do it in Beijing, do you think I could do it in Shanxi?)

Alex, you can try to convert the X2 type to work Z type at the exit and entry administration of the local PSB within PRC. It’s possible for you to do it in Shanxi. It’s worth a try!
