About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Will London - Shanghai (5 days) - Hong Kong (5 days) - Shanghai (5 days) - London work free transit?

The rules say "Passengers should hold an onward ticket with a confirmed seat and date as well as a valid visa to a third country or ***region*** (if required)." What does "region" mean here?

Raman, when it comes to free transit policy, HK, Macau and Taiwan are considered as a third region. So when you travel like that, you are eligible for the 144 hour free transit for both transits in Shanghai.
