About:China Family Reunion Visa

Entered with Q1 visa; now require Q2 permit

Much useful info here, thanks. I've entered on a Q1 with my Chinese wife and subsequently found work at her university. As you know, I must now return to the UK to apply for my z-type--but am first awaiting an invitation letter and a foreign experts permit (these are expected after my 30 days are up on Aug 5.). Hence, I'm looking for a way to extend my stay by a couple of weeks to ensure that I'm travelling to London with a complete application, and in a way that retains my passport without the necessity for a medical (results of which would not be transferable for work purposes, nor return results before my current visa expires).
So, my question is: can I go ahead and apply for the shorter term Q2 instead, and do so without the necessity of a medical examination? Thanks.

Hi Stuart, I advise you to change your Q1 to a tourist L type or a Q2 type at the local exit and entry administration so you can continue to live there for a couple of weeks. During the process, you don't need to take a medical examination.

Thanks, Dancer. We must go to my wife's hometown to do this, apparently--she doesn't have Guangzhou residency. This will happen tomorrow, only four days before my current 30 days expires. Will this cause a problem if processing takes me past Aug 5? Thanks.

Stuart, as far as I know, the process will takes not more than 7 working days. But once you submit the application, I think you can still stay in PRC until you get the result. If you are still worried, you can confirm that with the officers at the exit and entry administration.
