About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Going on a 4 night cruise from Shanghai

I will be going on a 4 night cruise from Shanghai, I have an American passport
Do I need a visa or can I travel on the 144 hour waiver.

Keith, if you enter by cruise and exit by the same ship, I’m afraid you need to apply for an entry permit for your stay in Shanghai. Otherwise, you’d be refused to board the ship. Of course, you’d better contact with the airline company and confirm that.
