I am traveling from thailand to Hong Kong via beijing airport do I need a china transit visa

If your layover time in Beijing is less than 24 hours, no transit G type is needed and you can make use of the 24 hour direct transit.
But if it’s more than 24 hours, a transit G type is needed.
