About:China Visa

Do we need a Chinese visa prior to travel?

My husband and I arrive by air in Shanghai from UK on 23rd January. We leave by cruise ship on the 26th . Our next port of call is in Japan. Am I correct in thinking that we only need a 72hr or a 144hr free transit available at Pu dung airport. We are both British citizens using British passports. Can you please clarify the position for me as we keep getting conflicting replies!

You don’t need to apply for any Chinese entry permit in advance because you are eligible for the 144 hour free transit in Shanghai.

Thank you very much. I am now going to investigate whether Virgin will accept us on our flight without a visa. They have said that it could take 28 days to respond. I've also contacted Celebrity cruises and posed the same question. It's amazing how ill equipped and outdated these companies are.
