About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Travel to Xitang

I'm looking at visiting Shanghai for three nights this September, and was wondering if I can use the waiver scheme to also visit Xitang? It seems to be included in the permitted area, so I presume it's possible, but I am just wondering how traveling within that area works? Do you ever have any visa checks/passport checks when moving about, or do you just board the bus/train as normal?

Mike, if you are eligible for the 144-hour free transit policy, you will be allowed to travel in Zhejiang, Jiangsu and Shanghai and Xitang is included in Zhejiang, so you can go there for sure. When applying for the 144-hour free transit, the immigration officer will stamp on your passport. Then you can board the bus/train as normal, just show your passport.
