About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

We arrive at Shanghai international airport on 23rd Jan 2017 .

we are staying in a hotel for 3 nights and then leave by ship from the port of Baoshan on the 26th Jan. We are not visiting any other areas on mainland China. Will the 144hour visa applicable to this holiday?

Susan, if you will take the cruise ship to a third country or region instead of the one you fly from, you can enjoy the 144 hour free transit in Shanghai.

Thank you Hans, Yes, we fly from the UK to Shanghai and our next port of call is Nagasaki, Japan. From your response it would appear that we don't need to go through the process of obtaining an entry permit before we travel. We arrive in Shanghai on the 23rd Jan and leave by ship on the 26th.Once more thank you for taking the time to answer my querie.
