About:China Visa

Flying to Beijing on the 9th of November and staying for three night( less than 72 hrs),

Then joining a cruise ship from Beijing cruising and stopping for a day in Shanghai. I have dual nationality mauritius/UK citizenship whereas my wife has a UK citizenship and a Mauritian residency. As far as I can make it, I would not need a visa but would my wife need one?
I am aware that a new 144 hrs visit came into effect as from January 2016.

Ray, if you travel with your Mauritius passport, you don’t need to apply for any entry permit because Mauritian citizen are allowed to enjoy free entry to PRC.
But I’m afraid your wife needs to apply for a transit G type or tourist L type ahead of trip because after 3-night stay in Beijing, she will leave for Shanghai by cruise and then she cannot enjoy the 72 hour free transit in Beijing or Shanghai.

Thank you very much for your quick response.
Can you possibly clarify the 144hrs free entry that came into effect from January this year. Will my wife not fall into this category?

Ray, the 144 hour free transit is carried out since this January, but it is only available in Shanghai, Jiangsu and Zhejiang. Because your wife will stop in Beijing and Shanghai, she cannot enjoy the 144 hour free transit.
