About:China Work Visa

How long does it take for a school to obtain required paperwork for a z visa?

I was offered a job teaching in China back in February 2016. I was asked to provide a bunch of paperwork by the end on March so they could obtain required paperwork for my z type. I spent close to 500$ authenticating my diplomas and getting my medical exam. We are in the middle of July and I'm still waiting for my paperwork. The school administrator told me that I can arrive two days prior to the start of the school year! WTF.... How about a 16 hour time difference, being jet legged for at least a week, moving in, preparing for classes?! Do they want me sleepwalking during class time?! I'm really getting annoyed. I've decided for myself that if I don't get my paperwork by August 10, they will need to find a different teacher. I'm simply not going. I've read on multiple forums that obtaining the paperwork takes 2-3 weeks. Did anyone else have a similar experience waiting too long for their paperwork?

Generally it takes less that 60 days but it depends on how organised your employer is.
I am in a similar position to you. Over 3 months since the contracts were signed. I was informed today that I have 2 choices as the papers are not completed yet. Either Enter China on a tourist visa and they will sort things out after I arrive or continue hanging in for the paperwork for the z visa.
Your point about turning up 2 days before work. That is pretty normal. Don't worry about jet lag, all your fellow teachers will be also. You probably won't teach for the first week anyway.

Hi. I'm in the exact same situation.... I have done all the papers , already spent quite a bit of money. I just need their alien permit so I can submit to the embassy. It takes 4 days to get the visa...then how long to get the alien permit on their side? 😅 this waiting is so frustrating ..

I can relate to your frustration. It's seems like my paperwork process is finally moving along. I messaged my recruiter to tell her that it doesn't seem that the school is taking me seriously and I might as well find myself a new job since there are plentry of online postings. That sure did the trick! My tecriter gets paid only if I show up for work. My school doesn't want to look for another teacher. I was told yesterday that my invitation letter should be ready by the end of next week. I asked for express shipping. So aplying pressure does work! Good luck to you!

Great news! I am dealing directly with the school, so no recruiter involved in my case. I do pressure my manager but he seems to have a lot of work and this permit seems to depend on the government rather than the employer itself. Right? I told them that once they get the permit they should send them o me via DHL or something like that too...To be safe and quick! I really hope I get some good news soon...I have been out of work for 2 months now and it's so so frustrating , don't wanna spend my savings on nothing. Whereabouts will you go to China? Peace. Valentina, I'm going to Suzhou, about an hour away of Shanghai. Вы говорите по русски?
