concern about the visa from shanghaikunming

Question

Hi! If I travel from Canada to shanghai, transit from shanghai to kunming  (because I have to go get my baggages then check in again), then kunming to vientiane (Laos).. Do I need to apply for visit in order to transit in china, because I'm Laos passport holder?  Toronto>Shanghai> (have to go to get my baggages outside and check-in again) Shanghai>Kunming>Kunming > Vientiane (Laos) Thank Amy

Amy, if your total transit time in PRC is less than 24 hours, you can make use of the 24 hour direct transit, and the entry permit is not needed then.If it’s more than 24 hours, a transit G type or tourist L type is required.
