About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

We had plans on taking a direct flight from Canada to Shanghai

and visiting there for under the 72 hour Visa-Free Transit period. We would then be taking a flight to Manila. The flight from Shanghai to Manila has a connection and layover in Guangzhou before going on to Manila. Would this be allowed under China's 72-Hour Free Transit rules ?

Thanks, David & Grace

David, if so, I’m afraid you cannot use the 72 hour free transit because you will stop in both Shanghai and Guangzhou, but according to the 72 hour policy, you are only allowed to transit in one Chinese city. So you should apply for a tourist L type or transit G type in advance.
Or if your total layover time in Shanghai and Guangzhou is less than 24 hours, you can use the 24 hour direct transit. In this way, no entry permit is needed.
