About:Hong Kong MTR Tickets & Fares

Can you extend the 3 day travel limit on Airport Express Travel Pass?

I plan to be in Hong Kong for 6 days and return travel on the airport express. I will also use MTR and other land transport during my stay. What is the best option to cover all my travel while in HK?
If I purchase this travel pass, can it be extended at a cost, to cover the extra days, and does the return trip to the airport have to be within those 3 days?

Yes, you can top it up and use it as a normal octopus card on MTR, buses, taxis, ferries and trams. It will be very convenient for you! You don't have to do the AE return trip within 3 days. The pass is valid for 180 days by the way. :)

What are the differences between these two passes - Tourist Day Pass (HK$55) and Tourist Cross-boundary Travel Pass (HK$85 / HK$120)? I'm going to stay in HK for 7 consecutive days, which one do you suggest me to go for it? Thank you.

Dear Karen, the Tourist Cross-boundary Travel Pass for one day/ two days costs HKD 100/ HKD 140 respectively.

Apart from 1 or 2 day unlimited travel on the MTR and Light Rail (except Airport Express, MTR Bus, East Rail Line First Class, and additional travel to/from Lo Wu and Lok Ma Chau stations), the Tourist Cross-boundary Travel Pass includes 2 single journeys to/from Lo Wu or Lok Ma Chau stations within 1 or 2 consecutive days (as shown on the ticket).

In contrast, Tourist Day Pass only includes 1 day unlimited ride on MTR and Light Rail (except Airport Express, MTR Bus, East Rail Line First Class, and additional travel to/from Lo Wu and Lok Ma Chau stations).

Since you will stay in HK for 7 days, you are advised to buy a Standard Octopus Card. You need to pay HKD 50 as the refundable deposit, and HKD 100 as the stored value. You can use the card to ride on MTR, Light Rail, buses, ferries, trams, taxis, etc. :)
