About:Shanghai Pudong Airport

Hoping to arrive at Pudong Airport around 4.55AM from Singapore on China Eastern

With a domestic flight to Beihai leaving at 9.20AM, again on China Eastern.

I'm half hoping the airport won't be as busy as it was last time I was there, mid day.

But my question is; would my checked in luggage need to be collected by myself then checjed in again, or will it likely go straight through?

Thank you

Generally speaking, it won't be very busy in the early morning. You needn't claim your luggage, and it will be delivered to the final destination directly.
Here are the procedures: Flight Arrival- Check in- Quarantine- Immigration- Security Check- Domestic Concourse- Waiting for boarding. :)
