Question

I am travelling to China early next month and would like to cover Shanghai, Chengdu and Xian.Please recommend me mode to transports to all those places.Thank you.

You can travel from Shanghai to Chengdu and then to Xian. From Shanghai to Chengdu, you may choose to take flight or bullet train, but flight is recommended as the train ride takes around 15 hours. From Chengdu, you can either take flight or overnight train to Xian. The train journey takes about 10 hours.
