About:Hong Kong MTR Tickets & Fares

What 's the suitable Octopus Card for us?

I will arrive at hongkong 1030am with my girlfriend. Will stay at tsim sha tsui. Want to take airport express. But i will come back to airport to pick up my mom that will arrive at 8pm. After 4 days we all come to airport using airport express. Please help

You are advised to buy standard octopus cards, with which you can ride on Airport Express, MTR, buses, taxis, trams, ferries, etc. To get a standard octopus card, each adult needs to pay HKD 50 as the refundable deposit, and HKD 100 as the stored value; each elder (Fare Concession Eligibility varies among Transport Companies) pays HKD 50 as the refundable deposit, and HKD 20 as the stored value.

The Airport Express Travel Pass with two single journeys can also be a nice choice for you. It costs HKD 350 per person. By the way, the AE Round Trip Ticket between HKIA and Kowloon Station costs HKD 160. For your mom, the pass is sufficient.

Apart from rides on AE trains, you can use the pass to ride free for 3 consecutive days on MTR, Light Rail, MTR Bus (Northwest Territory) (except additional ride on Airport Express, East Rail Line First Class, travel to/ from Lok Ma Chau or Lo Wu Station). After three days, you can recharge some money on the card. Then it can be used as the Standard Octopus Card.
