About:China Visa Renewal and Extension

Z visa expiring soon, need extension

I have a Z visa from my previous employer (with release letter), and am beginning a new job next week. However, my z type will expire July 15, 2016.

A) do I have time to get this transferred/renewed?
B) can I get a one-month extension to handle this?
C) how do I go about it?

I am in the same situation. My current job has me till the last day of my visa. Than I need to obtain a foreign expert certificate which I think I need a renewed visa for. Ugh so confused.

1. Brian, you can apply for a tourist L type 7 days earlier before your work Z type expires.
2. You can get a 30-day tourist L type to handle that.
3. You need to prepare the required documents for L type including your passport, the application form, a passport-sized photo, valid registration form of temporary residence, the return tickets and accommodation arrangement or an invitation letter from your friend. After, submit the application to the local PSB to apply for the L type.

So the best way is to get an L visa, then work on the Z? Would that mean I would have to do a Z process all over again? What about the Criminal Record Check? I just did that at the PSB today; would I need to get one from my home country instead?
