About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Definition of 'transit'?

With this free transit can I stopover in Shanghai with this route?: London -> Shanghai -> Paris -> London

I don't think it follows the spirit of the visa but could Shanghai be considered my transit city on my way to Paris? What will be checked: That I have a ticket out *anywhere* else afterwards, or I have a later ticket for a destination that Shanghai is a sensible transit city for?

Thanks

Ben, if you travel with this route: London -> Shanghai -> Paris -> London and transit in Shanghai for not more than 144 hours, you qualify for the 144 hour free transit there. You need to show the onward ticket and valid entry permit to Paris when boarding the plane in London.
