Multiple Entry M type 90 days

Hi I'm from The Netherlands and I'm going to PRC for business. Several people told me that I should only get a 90 days multiple entry visa and once I go out before the 90 days expire and re-enter through HongKong, my M type will automatically be valid for another 90 days. Can someone tell me more about this?
