Extension of 90 day visa

Hello! Do I need to go to Hong Kong to extend my visa. I have a two year L visa and by December I will have been here for 90 days. Can I renew my visa in Beijing where I am staying? For another 90 days. Is this okay? What do I need to bring with me. I have a British Passport.
