visa requirements for china

Hi, I'm flying from perth to shanghai and only staying 4 days then fly back to perth. Can i apply for the 144hour transit free permit or do i need a different entry permit?

Tiho, no, you cannot make use of the 144 hour free transit in Shanghai because you fly back to Perth after 4-day stay in Shanghai, and based on the 144 hour policy, you should fly to a third country or region rather than Australia. You should apply for a tourist L type beforehand or change your flight schedule. For example, if you stop over in Hong Kong on your way back, you will qualify for the 144h free transit.

So if my flight is perth to sydney to shanghai then return shanghai to hongkong to perth. Would that qualify me for the 144 hr vsa free permit? If so, how do i apply for it?

Yes, if you arrange flight like this, you will qualify. You just need to tell the airline that you want to use this policy before arriving in Shanghai, and then apply for it upon arrival. The process is quite simple. You just need to fill some forms.
