About:Chinese Consulate in New York

Mail-in application

Do travelers apply by mail for China visas?
Do they typically mail their passports to the consulate?
I will travel in October 2016. the application requires listing of hotel reservations for arrival date, but most hotels do not accept reservations many months ahead. Do I need to wait until I get a hotel reservation to apply for a visa?
Many thanks

Slack, the consulate general doesn’t accept the application by mail.
The hotel reservation is needed for the application and because you will travel in October, you can apply for it one month prior to your trip. At that time, maybe you can get the hotel reservation.

Thanks, Neal, you are certainly correct.
The problem is that I live in Buffalo, NY, hundreds of miles from the consulate in NYC, and do not relish making such a long trip just to get a passport stamped. But, my studies indicate that the Chinese Consulate accepts applications from "couriers," agents who walk the documents to the consulate. I am looking into the courier option.
