Holder of S1 Visa and Residence Permit - What is Needed for Entry to Macau?

Hello,

First of all, I'm American and I'm working here with a Z type and Residence Permit. My husband is from Cote d'Ivoire (Ivory Coast) and he has the S1 type with Residence Permit. He was the first in his country to ever apply and receive the S1 type to come to PRC and because it is fairly new, they were surprised the type even existed. Now we are having similar issues trying to find information on how to travel to places like Macau and Hong Kong which are so close to where we are living (Guangzhou). My husband has a Residence Permit because his S1 type is linked to mine which is linked to my company that employs me. However, since his S1, he is not allowed to work. If he wants to work he would need to change to a working Z type. This makes sense to me, of course, but what does not make sense is that he would need an employment certificate if he applies for an entry permit to go to Macau or Hong Kong. I'm wondering if there is no information on what S1 type holders need because it is so new (similar to when he applied for it in his country), or if he really isn't able to go to these places. If anyone has any answers on what S1 type Holders need to obtain a tourist entry permitto Macau and Hong Kong, we would greatly appreciate it!
Thanks!

As far as I know, mainland PRC S1 type and residence permit cannot allow its holders to enter Macau and HK because the exit and entry policies for the three places are different.
As for Macau, your husband may be able to apply for VOA after he goes there.
As for HK, he needs to apply for an entry permit in advance and then he can visit there.
However, US passport holders can enjoy free entry to go HK and Macau for a stay of not over 90 days and 30 days respectively.

Thanks so much for your reply. Do you know specifically what documents my husband needs to apply as a holder of the S1 type and residence permit? I've googled and googled, but the only information we can find is very broad in regard to residence permit holders. Every website we have found says that residence permit holders need an employment certificate, but not all residence permit holders are the same or are on working Z types. My husband has a residence permit but with an S1 type which is a nonworking Z type. If you know any information specifically about the documents necessary for his case, we'd be so thankful!

He needs to provide those documents to apply for HK tourist entry permit: copy of his passport, the application form, a passport-style photo, hotel reservation, proof of financial support, flight itinerary, and travel plan. And then post the application to HK immigration department to apply for it. The postal address:
Receipt and Despatch Sub-unit
HK Immigration Department
2/F, Immigration Tower
7 Gloucester Road
Wan Chai, HK
As for Macau VOA, he just needs to provide the passport, S1 type and residence permit in mainland PRC, and enough travel fees, or at least 5,000 MOP show money.
