About:Chinese Temporary Residence Permit

Need information on S2 Visa and residence permit

I am a student with X1 type studying in Beijing China. I applied for my family (wife and Child) for long term entry permit (S1) but got short term one (S2). Can i apply for residence permit for longer time like S1 type once they come here while applying for residence permit?

Suyash, if they get S2 type, they cannot apply for the residence permit.
But after they enter PRC, they can try to convert S2 type to S1 type and then they can apply for the residence permit.
