About:China Transit Visa

South African passport holder transit with visit to Beijing - do I need a visa?

Hello. I am travelling on a South African passport and will be travelling from Paris (France) to Beijing. I would arrive in Beijing at 06h30 in the morning. I would then like to spend the day visiting Beijing and return to the airport late that evening for a flight departing at 01h50 the following day, so less than 24 hours. Do I need an entry permit for this? Thank you for your assistance.

transit visa will be needed if you plan to leave transit area to visit the city unless you meet the transit permit-exempt requirement. For certain countries (52 countries) enjoy 72 hours transit permit-exempt if China is the stop-over place in your flight, for example, Paris to Beijing to somewhere other than paris. However, South African is not within the certain country list. All you can do is EITHER apply for a Chinese visa so you can leave the airport and visit the city OR stay within transit area.
