Modeling audition to Shanghai, I have some questions about visa application

Hello,
I will be going to Shanghai for a modeling audition so I assume I'm going to need the business type M visa.
The thing is, I have an expired Japanese passport with both my Japanese and English name on it, and my American passport. I will be traveling very shortly and therefore cannot get my passport renewed in enough time. My hotel is booked through my agency so it is not under my name. Will any of this be a peoblem?
