How to obtain visa with China Southern Airlines Standby Ticket

Hi,
My son has won economy return flights to Guangzhou using standby. How will he obtain a visa?

Deena, your son is flying to China for tourism purpose, right? If yes, he should apply for a tourist L type entry permit at the CVASC office in Australia. The required application documents include his passport, a copy of the passport's data page, a properly completed application form with his recently-taken photo stuck on it, and a copy of round-trip tickets and hotel bookings for this trip.

Lucy, Thank you, but you missed that he has won standby tickets, so he cannot apply for a visa with his travel dates already booked. How do we get passed this problem?

Oh, I forgot this point. In this case, you may need to get an invitation letter from China. If you know someone there, it's easy to get this letter. If not, you may turn to a travel agency for help.
