About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

US citizen planning to stay 1 night in Chengdu

Hello,
Would I require a visa if I plan on staying overnight (1 night) in Chengdu as the next day I will be connecting to a flight in Lhasa, Tibet? I am a US citizen

Coming back I plan to just be in transit but will have to stop in PRC to make a connection, again would I need an entry permit or does the 72 free entry apply to both situations?

Thank you

J, you cannot enjoy the 72 hour free transit because according to the policy, you are only allowed to transit in one Chinese city, but you will stop in Beijing and Lhasa. And the most important thing is that you are not on a transit because your destination will be Tibet. Vice Versa.
So you should apply for a tourist L type or other type of visa for you trip to PRC.
