Can Chinese passports be endorsed?

I am an NZ citizen and my son was born in NZ - so he has automatically been assigned NZ citizenship. My wife is Chinese but hasn't obtained NZ citizenship or permanent residence.

My son doesn't have a passport yet - but he does have a Chinese "Travel certificate" which allows him to travel back to China.

If we go back to China and get him a Chinese passport - we can get the passport endorsed at the NZ embassy to show (either electronically or stamped form) that he has an endorsement to enter NZ

The question is - will that endorsement cause problems for him when exiting China?

Mark, if he holds Chinese passport, he needs to apply for visa to enter New Zealand. An endorsement on the passport cannot work.
Or he can take the blank passport to Thailand or other countries where he can get VOA with Chinese passport, and then go to New Zealand from there.

Hi Mac - thanks for the reply - just to clarify, when you say the endorsement cannot work, does that mean on the Chinese end? Like questions raised at the airport?

Thanks again

Hi there! It means on the New Zealand end. In PRC, endorsement is used to enter HK or Macau which is a part of mainland PRC. So if your son holds Chinese passport, when he goes to New Zealand, it will be regarded as the entry to another country, in this case, a visa is needed.
