About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

144hr visa free entry

I'm visiting Shanghai for a day with Princess Cruises, they say I need a Chinese entry permit to go on this cruise is this correct or does the 144hr free entry not apply?
Cheers,
Mike

Mike, may I know where you will go to after one-day stay in Shanghai? If you will go to a third country or region instead of going back to the last country you departed, you can enjoy the direct transit and no entry permit is needed. Otherwise, you need to apply for one beforehand.

Unfortunately, we are being told by Princess Cruises that they will only take the word of the entry permit company they deal with (CIBC) regarding this and they say that we need entry permits or we will not be allowed onto the Ship!!!!! Not very pleased as we are only in Shanghai for a few hours and The entry permits will cost at least £175 each.

I’m sorry to hear that. But maybe you can print out the relevant 144 hour policy and then show it to the cruise company. I’m not sure if it can work, but it is worth a try!

Already asked that but Princess say they will only take CIBT advice and they recommend we get it. It's an outrageous amount of money for a few hours visit to Shanghai. 😡
