l visa to z type

I am in USA and will be going to China on an L type entry permit to visit a friend. Can I change my L type to a Z type? The reason I ask is because I was offered a job in PRC by a friend.

To be honest, it's difficult to change an L type to Z type nowadays. You may have to turn to an agency for help.
