About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

From Thailand stopping in Shanghai for two nights on the way home to U.S. Eligible?

I'm flying from Phuket to San Francisco (my home), stopping in Shanghai and staying for two nights. I obviously don't need a visa to return to my own home country (or for Thailand, for that matter), and I see in the list of requirements to be eligible for the 72-hour free transit that I need an entry permit for my next destination. Not to return to my own home country, right?

Frisco, you can returrn to your own country. The entry permit is only required to show when you need it. Since you don't need one to enter your home country or Thailand, you don't need to show it and you can still enjoy the 144-hour free transit policy.
