Question about S1 Visa Length

My husband will apply for an S1 type this time but I'm wondering what is the duration possible that they will give him because while I do have a new two year contract here, my Z type is updated every 6 months by the school as they haven't converted to 1 year visas yet. Will this affect his S1? Should we just apply for an S2 instead? Is it possible to apply for an S2 and then extend it without leaving China?

Shannon, do you have a residence permit? If you don't have one, it will be hard for your husband to get an S1. If you have it but it's only valid for six months, your husband has a chance to get the S1 type. It's possible for him to apply for the S2 as well if you have a residence permit, but remember that he can't extend the S2 more than twice without leaving PRC.
