About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Do I need to do anything prior to arriving at airport?

I believe we qualify for the 72 hour visa free transit. We arrive on a Thursday at 18:00 and depart on Sunday at 12:50. (USA-Beijing-Tokyo). Is there anything we need to do prior to arriving at the airport? We are flying Air China from USA to Beijing to Tokyo so we have the documentation to show that we are continuing on to a 3rd country.
I have never done this before so I don't want to get to the airport and not be able to get on the plane.
Thanks!

You are right! The 72 hour free transit is applicable to your situation.
When you board the plane in UAE, you need to inform the carrier that you want to use the 72 hour free transit in Beijing and then your request will be declared to the immigration inspection office in Beijing Airport. You need to fill an arrival/departure card on the flight. And after you arrival, you can apply for the 72 hour free transit at the airport.
