Johnson, after you leave the company, your employer may inform the exit and entry administration to cancel your residence permit. So if it has been cancelled, you cannot use it to re-enter PRC.
But if you make sure that your residence permit hasn’t been cancelled, you can use it to travel and go back to PRC.

Thankyou Elsa for this. they cancelled my work permit. but r.P is still on my passport.
Can they cancel it without informing me? they don't need the passport for this?
& after cancellation of W.P, what's the status of my R.P which is valid till October? sorry for being so pushy, but i think you have good knowledge on that & would help me out. Thanks!

Johnson, they can cancel it without informing you. If your employer informs the exit and entry administration to cancel your residence permit, they can cancel it without your passport.
Usually, after canceling the work permit, the residence permit can still be used until its expiry date if it is not cancelled. Maybe you can contact with your previous employer and ask if he/she informs the exit and entry administration to cancel your residence permit.

Thankyou Elsa. I tried contacting my old company but they haven't informed me the exact situation (seems they forget my issue). What you suggest me? Should i go to PSB Shanghai and ask them to check my residence is still valid or not?
