Traveling to China for an Academic Conference

I am a Cypriot traveling to PRC for an academic conference. What type of Visa do I apply for? L or F? What type of documents do I need? For example, do I need an invitation letter? Also, do I need to have the air/hotel reservations arranged when I apply? Finally, I am not sure I understand what is the requirement for a travel insurance and if I have to worry about that…

Chris, you can apply for an F type and you can ask for an invitation letter from the conference organizer. The round trip air tickets and hotel reservation are not required for the application for F type.
The required documents include your passport and copy of its data page, the application form, a passport-sized color photo, and the invitation letter. Based on what I know, the travel insurance is not necessary, either. So don’t worry!
