I want to attend a trade fair in mainland China. Do I need a business visa?

I want to attend the Canton Trade Fair in Guangzhou on mainland PRC and then spend a couple of days in Hong Kong.

Do I need a Business M type or would a Tourist L type suffice?

Tristan, if you just want to attend the fair, but you don't know anyone in PRC, and neither do you have contact with any business there, you can just apply for a tourist L type. If you can get an invitation letter from your trade partner in PRC, you can apply for an M type.
