About:Culture of Silk Road

When about in historical terms socialism hit the silk road?

Was there any impact because of Russian revolutions of 1920s on this road, though road was almost loosing its currency by that time?

As I know, this route stretches from the central China westwards to the ancient Rome. So, Russian revolutions of 1920s may not bring much effect to the road.
However, due to the development of the maritme trade since the Sui and Tang Dynasty (581 - 907), this route began to decline and totally lose its trade function in 1920s.
