i have a flight at 0735 leaving terminal 3. how early do i need to be at beijing airport?

Can I check in first, then go to the Left Baggage counter to leave my bag before going into security checks? From a hotel in Forbidden City, how long does it take by subway to get to the airport, or is a taxi more advisable for such an early flight?

Yes, after you check-in, you can deposit your luggage before the security checks for boarding. For such an early flight, subway is infeasible. You need leave your hotel at 4am, and at that time, the subway is out of operation. Taxi is the best choice, and the taxi fare is about CNY100.
