Visiting my boyfriend, UK to Beijing

I'm wanting to visit my boyfriend as he currently lives in Beijing as he's teaching english for a year, I was planning on visiting at the end of May/beginning of June for 2/3 weeks. A couple of questions, How long does a visa take to process? Will I need to go to London in order to apply/receive it? Or is there a way I can apply/qualify online or through the post? And does anyone know how much it costs? I'm finding it really hard to find the answers to my questions online, when I applied for my Australian entry permit I did it all online.

After you submit your application, it usually needs 4 working days to process it.
If you are UK citizen, you can go to the CVASC in London to submit the application, or entrust someone to do it for you; or you can post your application to the CVASC. As far as know, at present, there is no online service provided.
If you submit by yourself, it costs 151 pounds. If you post your application, you need to pay 175 pounds.
