Visiting Beijing with children during National Holiday 2016

Hi

We are a family of four, two adults and two children aged 5 and 7, that are traveling to Beijing for the first time, 5th-14th of October 2016. After booking the plane tickets we came aware that this is during the National Holiday. Would you have any recomendations for us? We are also wondering if 9 days are a bit much in Beijing, would you recommend us to split the vacation on two cities? If so, when would be a good day to travel to for instance Shanghai. Or would you rather recommend another city?

Thank you!

Hi Benedicte! The China National Holiday starts from October 1st to 7th. So when you arrive, it almost puts to an end. Many peopler are on the way back to their work and school. So I advise you to stay in Beijing from October 5 - 7. Though tourist attractions may still be full of people, they are not crowded as the first few days of this holiday.

Nine days are too much for Beijing I think. You can go to Shanghai on Oct. 8 or 9, when there are less people travelling and the tickets are easier to get. You can spend two or three days in Shanghai. Then, you may go to the nearby water towns in Suzhou or visit the famous West Lake in Hangzhou. They are good places for a leisure travel. Enjoy your journey!

Thank you for an very informative answering, and for responding so rapidly. Would you recommend a night train to Shanghai? Travelling with two children plus luggage, I believe we will have to take a taxi to the train station, which station would you recommend. Is it possible to book the train tickets already?

You can get a night train from Beijing to Shanghai and I found two best options for you. One is D313, departing at 19:34 and arriving at 07:27 the next morning. The other one is D321, departing at 21:23 and arriving at 09:12 the next morning. Both leave from Beijing South Railway Station.

It's too early to book the tickets now. You can book the tickets within the 60 days prior to your departure date. As the train tickets are had to get during the National Day holiday, you can book it as soon as possible once they are put on sale.

Hi again. I am about to book my train tickets from Beijing to Shanghai and return tickets. Two questions:

1. We would like to book soft sleepers, how do I make sure that we get sleepers in the same cabin?

2. We would like to take a night train from Shanghai to Beijing on the 10th of October, and take the airport train directly to Beijing international airport, as our flight leaves at 14.30. Which trainstation in Beijing would be the best to arrive in?

Benedite, if you book soft sleepers in one order, the chance you can get sleepers in the same cabin is very big.

For the train from Shanghai to Beijing, I think the best choice is T110. It departs at 18:02 from Shanghai Railway Station and arrives in Beijing Railway Station at 09:30 the next day. The whole journey takes about 15.5 hours.
