About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Hi There , my trip is for manila with a stop over of 7 and half hours in Beijing Airport.

I want to leave the airport and see the city then come back immediately . Am I qualified for the direct transit or the 72 hour free transit ? Do I have to pay for the direct transit ? Can I leave my baggage with the airline company since it's original destination is Manila anyway?

Andrew, you qualify for both the direct transit and the free transit. But you may need to apply for a temporary stay permit at the immigration inspection office to leave the airport. And the permit is free of charge, so you don’t need to pay for it.
You should contact with the airlines and consult if your luggage will be delivered to Manila direct. If yes, you don’t need to claim it; if not, you need to collect it.

Thank you Cindy for the quick response. Since the airline informed me that my luggage can be claimed at Manila thne I wouldn't be worrying about that either. Now, where is that immigration inspection that you mentioned, is that before the section where an officer stamps your passport or before you cear customs? Also, is there a tour bus that offer a city tour for an hour then comes back to the hotel? Thank you again Cindy , you are very helpful.
Take care.
Andrew

Dear, you are right. It’s the place where an officer stamps on your passport. After getting off, there are many direction signs, you can follow them to find it.

There is no tours bus to offer a city tour, but the transportation around the airport is convenient. You can take airport shuttle bus line 12 (Capital Airport – Sihui) at the terminal building 3 and then get off at Sihui station from where you can take subway line 1 to Tiananmen East, getting out from exit A and walk to the Tiananmen Square (city center). It takes 2 hours or so and costs about CNY28.
